Hirabai Cowasji Jehangir Medical Research Institute (HCJMRI) was established in 1995 with the mission to
advance scientific research and enhance the quality of human life. Located within the premises of Jehangir
Hospital in Pune, HCJMRI operates as a sister concern of the hospital.
The institute is recognized by the Directorate of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Government of
India, as a centre for multidisciplinary research across various scientific domains. HCJMRI also holds both
the 80G certification and the prestigious 35(i)(ii) certificate, enabling donors to claim maximum tax
exemptions.
Our core research areas include Nutrition, Growth and Endocrine Disorders in Children, Type 1 Diabetes,
Maternal and Child Health, Osteoporosis, Bone Health, and other Non-Communicable Diseases.
A major part of our social initiative focuses on supporting children with Type 1 Diabetes and their
families. We provide medical assistance, diabetes education, personalized guidance, and regular health
monitoring through home and school visits, as well as follow-up calls. Families receive counseling on
diet and social issues during visits at home or at our center. In addition, we offer free medical
supplies such as insulin, glucometers, syringes, test strips, lancets, and also cover the cost of annual
pathology tests for these children.
At the Hirabai Cowasji Jehangir Medical Research Institute (HCJMRI), our vision is to enhance scientific
research and healthcare practices to improve quality of life, with a special focus on children and
families. We aspire to be a premier center for multidisciplinary research and compassionate care,
addressing key health issues through innovation, education, and collaboration.
We believe that healthcare should be accessible, holistic, and proactive—integrating prevention with
comprehensive treatment. Our efforts are centered on critical areas such as child health, nutrition,
endocrine disorders, Type 1 Diabetes, maternal and child health, osteoporosis, and non-communicable
diseases. Through this focus, we aim to make a meaningful contribution to the medical field and public
health landscape.
HCJMRI is dedicated to closing the gap between research and real-world healthcare by translating
scientific advancements into practical solutions that benefit vulnerable populations. We promote patient
and family education, active community engagement, and strong partnerships with healthcare professionals
to empower individuals in managing their health.
Our ultimate vision is "Healthiness with Happiness"—promoting well-being through knowledge, care, and
enduring support for generations to come.
The Hirabai Cowasji Jehangir Medical Research Institute (HCJMRI) is dedicated to advancing health and
well-being through innovative research, exceptional clinical care, and meaningful community involvement.
Our mission is guided by four core pillars:
1. Advancing Scientific Research
We are committed to conducting pioneering research that addresses pressing health concerns, with a
strong emphasis on pediatrics, maternal and child health, and non-communicable diseases. Our goal is to
produce evidence-based insights that shape healthcare policies and practices, ensuring that scientific
innovation translates into better patient outcomes.
2. Enhancing Patient Care and Well-being
HCJMRI strives to improve the lives of children and families living with chronic conditions by offering
specialized care in areas such as Type 1 Diabetes, nutrition, and endocrine disorders. By integrating
research into clinical practice, we provide holistic and patient-centered care, supported by education
and long-term follow-up for both patients and their families.
3. Empowering Communities through Education
We believe that informed individuals and engaged communities are key to better health. HCJMRI conducts
outreach and education programs across Pune and surrounding areas, equipping families with the knowledge
and tools needed to lead healthier lives. Our efforts aim to raise awareness, promote disease
prevention, and encourage proactive health management.
4. Fostering Collaboration and Upholding Social Responsibility.
Through partnerships with healthcare providers, academic institutions, and community organizations, we
embrace a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to tackling complex health challenges. Our
commitment to social responsibility drives us to promote equitable, accessible healthcare and extend our
impact beyond research into real-world solutions.
By aligning research, care, education, and collaboration, HCJMRI is working to create sustainable
improvements in healthcare and community well-being—building a healthier, more informed future for all.
